Farm Managers Program (FMP)

Rabobank created the Farm Managers Program (FMP) specifically for farm managers who will be running and taking ownership of a leading agribusiness in the future. The FMP provides a platform for an exciting and rewarding career in primary production. Farm managers acquire the management and communication skills required to enable them to contribute to the strategic direction of their farm business.

 

  • A program for farm managers who aim to run and take ownership of a farm business
  • Currently employed in a farming enterprise
  • Young, progressive farmers who have a minimum of three years on-farm experience, including some management responsibility
  • Places are limited to 36 in each course, selection criteria apply
  • The program is a week-long (five days) residential module
  • Dates: Monday 18 – Friday 22 June 2012
  • 2012 Program will  be held in Queensland, Australia

Format

Incorporated throughout the program are:

  • Professional presentations of course content
  • Guest presenters sharing agribusiness success stories and strategies
  • Group discussion and team work analysing business management frameworks and strategies
  • Farm tour – visiting progressive farming enterprises

After the program, participants complete a management project to directly apply the principles and strategies introduced during the program to their own business. Finalists are selected to present their projects at the 2013 program, with the winning project awarded a business development prize valued at AUD 2,000.

 

Course fee
  • The fee is AUD 4,800. These amounts are inclusive of 10% GST and covers instruction, designated accommodation, meals and all course materials.
  • Fee does not cover travel/flights to and from the venue.

    Application process and selection criteria

    No tertiary education is required and Rabobank client status is not a prerequisite to apply for the Farm Management Program. Participants however, must actively contribute to teamwork and discussions and should be prepared to handle an intensive workload – including evening group assignments. With positions in each program limited to 36, selection is on a merit basis at the discretion of the Rabobank selection committee. Participants in each program are also selected to provide regional diversity and represent a broad cross section of agricultural sectors.

     

    Application process

    Applications are sought from young, leading farmers from Australia and New Zealand, who meet all aspects of the selection criteria.

     

    Selection criteria
    • Experience working in a successful and progressive farming business
    • Currently employed in primary production working in a farming enterprise
    • Minimum of three years' experience on-farm
    • Experience on-farm has involved some management responsibility
    • Working towards ownership and full management responsibility of a farming operation
