Rabobank is a co-operative organisation founded on the 369
independent local banks operating in the Netherlands. Together,
these banks form Rabobank Nederland (Coöperatieve Centrale
Raiffeisen-Boerenleenbank BA), which advises the banks and
supports their services. In addition, Rabobank Nederland acts
as the bank for the members.
The Rabobank Group also includes a large number of specialised
businesses around the world engaged in asset management, insurance,
leasing, private banking, equity participations, corporate
banking and investment banking.
One of these businesses, Rabobank International, established
operations under the Rabobank name in Australia in January
1990 - establishing its merchant banking arm, Rabo Australia
Ltd in 1994 and acquiring Primary Industry Bank of Australia
Ltd (PIBA) in 1994. In February 1998, Rabobank reinforced
its commitment to the rural sector in New Zealand with the
purchase of Wrightson Farmers Finance, which became Rabobank
New Zealand Ltd.
In 2007, Rabobank launched an online banking service in Australia
called RaboPlus,
following the successful launch of RaboPlus
in 2006 in New Zealand. The new online service broadens Rabobank's
activities in the Australian market and provides an innovative
avenue to raise funds to inject into Australia's food and
agribusiness sectors.
Recognising the unique role that the food and agribusiness
sectors play in the economies of Australia and New Zealand,
Rabobank's operation in the two countries is unique. We are
the Group's only full-service food and agribusiness banking
operation outside of the Netherlands.
Rabobank is committed to developing our presence and services
throughout Australasia. This includes growing our branch network
and expanding our client services. Rabobank has been steadily
growing its network of Australian branches, selecting new
locations based on research which identified those rural areas
in greatest need of its services. These branch offices enable
us to develop extensive local knowledge of primary production
in each region and better deliver individual on-farm service
to our clients.
