Rabobank appoints new Victorian state manager

Rabobank has announced the appointment of Hamish McAlpin as new state manager of its country banking business in Victoria.

Mr McAlpin moves into the role replacing Todd Charteris, who was recently appointed to the newly-created position of national manager, Country Banking Australia, after four years heading the bank’s Victorian rural operations.

Previously regional manager Northern Victoria for Rabobank, based in Shepparton, Mr McAlpin joined the bank in 2001.

Announcing the appointment, Mr Charteris said Hamish McAlpin was a highly-experienced rural banker who brought strong knowledge of agriculture generally, and the Victorian agricultural sector specifically, to the role.

“Hamish has a lifelong association with Victorian agriculture and experience in the broad range of commodities produced in the state,” Mr Charteris said.

“He is also a seasoned rural banker, who has a strong track record leading his team to support a growing and very successful client base in the northern Victorian region. This has been distinguished by working collaboratively with clients to help achieve their business success.”

Raised on his family’s beef and sheep property in the central highlands of Victoria, Mr McAlpin has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science, with Honours, from the University of Melbourne.

Prior to joining Rabobank, Mr McAlpin spent time in the United Kingdom, working in research facilities in the area of plant breeding and ruminant nutrition.

Mr McAlpin, who is relocating to Melbourne for the new role, said he was looking forward to the opportunity of working with clients across Victoria, as the state’s important rural sector continued to grow into the future.

“Victoria plays a very significant role in the nation’s agricultural production, and, while the current dry weather conditions being experienced in some areas are presenting some immediate challenges, the state’s rural sector has enormous growth potential into the future.”
