Rabobank Rural Transition Incentive Program

Transitioning to a low-carbon future is about more than reducing emissions - it’s about building a stronger, more resilient farm business. By understanding your farm’s emissions baseline and developing a clear plan, you can identify practical actions that not only lower emissions but may also improve productivity, input efficiency, soil health and long-term resilience.

The Rabobank Rural Transition Incentive Program aims to incentivise and help farmers to develop a farm plan that aligns potential emissions reduction activities with their on-farm goals. Eligible customers can apply to participate in the program and qualify for a loan interest rate discount of 1.15% p.a. on All In One business loans of up to $5 million for 12 months, helping reduce the cost of undertaking eligible emissions reduction activities.

The Program is available until 25 August 2027 or as subject to availability.

The discount will be applied to the Applicable Base Rate. After 12 months, the discount will be removed, and applicable base rate will apply.

Environmental Plantings Carbon Farming Loans

An ACCU Scheme Environmental Plantings (EP) carbon farming project involves planting and maintaining mixed native vegetation on land that has been clear of forest cover for the last five years. EP projects are part of the ACCU scheme, with abatement estimates calculated using the Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM).

Rabobank has secured funding investment from the CEFC to support a discount of up to 1.15% on Environmental Plantings Carbon Farming Loans to help ease initial borrowing costs for eligible activities related to establishing a new EP project.

  • Loan interest rates discounted by up to 1.15% per annum for the first three years
  • Loan funding for EP Project activities (subject to eligibility), such as: Feasibility assessments, Site preparation, seedling costs, planting, and maintenance, Reporting and audit costs, Land acquisition for new EP Projects

The Environmental Plantings Carbon Farming Loans are available until 25 February 2027.

Benefits of EP Projects:

While each EP Project is unique, benefits may include:

  • Animal welfare: providing shade and shelter for livestock and protection during weaning 
  • Soil protection: reducing wind erosion and enhancing pasture resilience
  • Water quality: improving riparian zones and reducing surface runoff 
  • Nature restoration: increasing biodiversity and expansion of habitat for native species
  • Carbon sequestration: helping reduce net Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
  • Generating Carbon Credits: One ACCU is generated for each tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2-e) stored in project trees over 25 years subject to meeting project obligations. These ACCUs may be held, sold to a third party to generate additional income, or retired to the Clean Energy Regulator to offset the farmer’s own emissions (known as insetting).
