Staying Password Safe

As a trusted partner in the agricultural community, we understand that your focus is on growing your business and supporting your family and community. But while you’re working hard in the field, cybercriminals are working just as hard online—targeting individuals and businesses with increasingly sophisticated scams.

Staying Password Safe: A Message from Your Trusted Banking Partner

At Rabobank, we understand that our clients are the backbone of Australia’s economy. Whether you're managing a cattle station in the Northern Territory or running a vineyard in the Hunter Valley, your time is precious—and so is your online security.

As more banking and business operations move online, protecting your digital identity is just as important as securing your physical assets. Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting rural businesses, knowing that many operate with limited IT support. That’s why we’re here to help you stay password safe.

Why Password Security Matters

Your password is the first line of defence against unauthorised access to your accounts. A weak or reused password can be easily cracked, putting your finances, personal information, and even your farm’s operations at risk.

Top Tips for Strong Passwords

  1. Use a passphrase: Instead of a single word, use a phrase that’s easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess. For example, “MuddyBoots@Sunrise2026” is far stronger than “farm123”. Short passwords can be more easily deciphered. Use a combination of upper and lower case letters, numerals and punctuation marks.
  2. Avoid personal details: Don’t use names, birthdays, or addresses—these are often easy to find online.
  3. Use different passwords for different accounts: If one account is compromised, others won’t be at risk.
  4. Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA): This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification, like a code sent to your phone. Never provide this code to a third party, Rabobank will never ask you to provide this code to a staff member.
  5. Update passwords regularly: Set a reminder to change your passwords every few months.

Tools to Help You Stay Safe

Consider using a password manager to generate and store complex passwords securely. Given the volume of passwords and accounts required in today’s digital environment, these tools can simplify your  life while keeping your information protected.
