Goondiwindi’s Mia Lowe

Goondiwindi’s Mia Lowe

With her sights set firmly on a meaningful career based in her hometown of Goondiwindi, Mia Lowe has hit the bullseye thanks to a new role with Rabobank.

Almost two months into her role as a relationship analyst, and the ambitious 19-year-old is embracing the new challenge.

“I have so much support from everyone in the team, and while I grew up in Goondiwindi and thought I had a pretty good idea of agriculture, I’m quickly learning how complex farm businesses are, which keeps me on my toes but I’m loving learning all the aspects of rural banking.”

Having previously worked in an accounting firm, getting out on farm is a point of difference she’s embracing.

“I’m really enjoying not being behind a computer all day, every day, I’ve been on a few client visits and the team has been so supportive and encouraging of me to get out and about and challenge my comfort zone.”

With an affinity for agriculture and the region’s farmers, Mia is excited for the opportunity her new career path now affords.

“There are so many different avenues you can go down at Rabobank, locally and globally, which is a really exciting proposition, yet for now I’m so grateful to be able to have a genuinely global career right here in my hometown of Goondiwindi.”

A straight shooter who means business

And Mia is certainly no stranger when it comes to globetrotting – this national shooter competing across the world.

Mia is the vice-captain of the Australian Under 25s team, and will compete in the world titles next year in the UK.

Ahead of the titles, Mia and her family recently travelled to Bisley in the UK to get a feel for the region, and compete in a number of competitions.

“It is beneficial to spend some time competing over there before the big event, so we travelled over and shot for ten days,” she explains.

They won Gold in the 8 Man America Match, Bronze in the 8 Man Rutland Team, and Gold in the Midweek Teams match.

Individually, Mia placed 10th, and Frog 39th.

“It was a great result, and I feel better having been, now I know what to expect next year – although it was very wet, with winds up to 40 mph, which was a real challenge for the Aussies this year.”

Currently studying accounting and bookkeeping whilst juggling her career, Mia smiles that she can always find time for her well-loved sport of choice.

“I started shooting when I was 11 at the Goondiwindi Rifle Range with my Dad, and I’ve been so fortunate to compete across Australia – from as far as Melbourne, to Perth and Tasmania and everywhere in between, as well as South Africa for the previous world titles in 2023.

In South Africa Mia received second place in the under 25s category individually, and 40th overall – an achievement she’s rightly proud of.

“Essentially I’m competing with people who have done this for 40 years, men and women from all over the world, so it’s all quite exciting!”

And there’s plenty more travel on the horizon for Mia, who will shoot in New Zealand in late January next year.

She will also compete in the USA in 2027 for another international event, the South West Nationals.

“Shooting has been such an incredible way for me to see the world, and the fact that I get to do it with my Dad is even better –  it feels very special that we’re both in the Australian team."

She’s also grateful for Rabobank’s support of her sporting endeavours.

“I’m still young, and I’m excited to see where my future leads, yet in the meantime I get to remain in my hometown, close to family in a career I enjoy, all whilst having the opportunity to compete and see the world – I feel very fortunate.”
